“Those responsible for starting fires due to negligence or illegal activity can be held financially responsible and criminally responsible,” is what the Desert Sun folks say the Cal Fire folks put in a press release.
The San Bernardino National Forest tweeted that the El Dorado Fire has resulted in the death of one firefighter and 13 firefighters being injured.
The firefighter’s death and 13 firefighters’ injuries could lead to the DA deciding that the family who started the El Dorado Fire back on a triple digit hot Saturday afternoon should “be held financially responsible and criminally responsible.”
Now, I know there’re those of you who are saying, “Considering the fact that all the family was doing was celebrating a new life coming into the world with pyrotechnics, the DA should do what Jesus would do which is to show mercy.” And to y’all, mercy is fines and no jail time.
The only problem with all of that is the family knowingly and willingfully went out shooting off pyrotechnics, in dry California’s triple digit heat, during a time when firefighters up and down the state, as well as out of the state, were busy fighting the million plus acres that were burning faster than fish grease on an electrical stove.
So yeah, it’s going to take an act of God to get them out of this one.
